Lambert Bridge: A Sanctuary Among The Vines

Lambert Bridge: My Sanctuary Among the Vines
Written by long-time member, Luis Cabassa, July 2026

There are places we visit, and then there are places that become part of who we are. For me, Lambert Bridge, nestled in Healdsburg, California, was far more than a winery—it became a sanctuary for my soul.

I discovered it almost by chance during the years I lived in California. Unlike many of the larger wineries in Sonoma and Napa, Lambert Bridge was a small, limited-production winery where everything seemed to be done with patience, dedication, and deep respect for the art of winemaking. From my very first visit, I knew there was something truly special about that place.

What impressed me most was not only the quality of the wines, but the people. Everyone who worked there shared the same passion and an extraordinary warmth. Whether it was your first visit or your tenth, they welcomed you as if you were part of their family. Every conversation was an opportunity to learn. They never spoke of wine as merely a product, but as a story. Every bottle had a history—a vintage shaped by the weather, the vineyard, and the hands that carefully crafted it.

Over time, Lambert Bridge stopped being just another winery to visit and became a destination. I always found an excuse to return. It was a place where I could enjoy exceptional wines, meaningful conversations, and the kind of peace that only places untouched by haste can offer.

Becoming a member of their wine club was one of the greatest privileges of my journey as a wine enthusiast. Among its many benefits, there was one that I eagerly anticipated every year: the opportunity to spend a weekend in a charming little cottage nestled in the middle of the vineyard.

That cottage was simple, yet to me it represented the greatest luxury imaginable. Waking up surrounded by vineyards, strolling through the rows of vines as the Sonoma breeze gently swept across the landscape, and ending the day with a glass of wine while watching the sun set over the vines were moments that renewed my spirit. During those weekends, the outside world simply disappeared. There were no deadlines, no ringing phones, no worries—only nature, fine wine, and a profound sense of peace.

As the years passed, I realized I wasn’t returning only because of the outstanding wines. I kept coming back because Lambert Bridge had become my sanctuary. It was where I found serenity and where I was reminded that wine is far more than a beverage. It is culture, friendship, patience, and a reflection of the people whose passion brings it to life.

Today, whenever I uncork a bottle of Lambert Bridge, I savor much more than its remarkable wine. I relive every visit, every warm smile from the people who welcomed me, every conversation shared among the barrels, and every sunrise from that little cottage in the vineyard. These are memories that time has never diminished and that remain among the most treasured chapters of my life.

In the end, many wineries produce outstanding wines. Only a few create unforgettable memories. For me, Lambert Bridge will always be one of them.

Wine Pairings For Your Summer Barbeque

Summer has a way of bringing people together.

Maybe it’s the longer evenings, the smell of something delicious on the grill, or the simple joy of gathering around a table with family and friends. At Lambert Bridge, some of our favorite memories are made this time of year—sharing stories on the patio, passing plates around the table, and discovering that perfect wine pairing that makes a meal even more memorable.

If you’re planning a summer barbecue, here are a few of our favorite pairings to help elevate the occasion.

Classic Burgers & 2024 Maple Vineyard Zinfandel

There are few things more quintessentially summer than a great burger fresh off the grill. Whether you keep it simple with cheddar and caramelized onions or pile it high with your favorite toppings, a burger calls for a wine with plenty of personality.

Enter our 2024 Maple Vineyard Zinfandel.

The wine’s vibrant fruit, spice, and structure stand up beautifully to the richness of the beef, while its bright acidity keeps each bite feeling fresh and balanced. The subtle smokiness that develops on the grill also plays wonderfully with the wine’s layered notes of dark berries and baking spice.

It’s the kind of pairing that reminds us why Zinfandel has always been one of wine country’s favorite barbecue companions.

Slow-Smoked Brisket & 2023 Sage Vineyard Petite Sirah

Every barbecue has that dish everyone gathers around—the one that’s been cooking all day and draws compliments before it even reaches the table.

For us, that’s brisket.

Our 2023 Sage Vineyard Petite Sirah is a natural match for this barbecue classic. The wine’s concentrated dark fruit, velvety texture, and savory notes of spice and cedar complement the richness of the meat without being overwhelmed by it.

2023 Petite Sirah, Sage Vineyard

What makes this pairing especially successful is how the wine’s structure balances the brisket’s richness, while the smoky edges of the barbecue bring out the Petite Sirah’s depth and complexity. It’s bold, satisfying, and made for lingering summer evenings.

Grilled Shrimp & 2025 Bevill Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc

Not every barbecue revolves around red meat. Some of the best summer gatherings feature lighter fare, especially on those warm afternoons when something bright and refreshing feels just right.

Grilled shrimp paired with our 2025 Bevill Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc is one of our favorite examples.

The wine’s lively acidity and citrus-driven character enhance the natural sweetness of the shrimp while refreshing the palate between bites. Notes of lemon, grapefruit, and fresh herbs echo the flavors often found in marinades and finishing sauces, creating a pairing that feels effortless and vibrant.

It’s the kind of combination that practically begs to be enjoyed outdoors.

Rosemary-Brined Pork Loin & 2021 Sonoma County Cabernet Franc

Pork loin may not always be the first thing people think of when planning a barbecue, but it consistently earns a place on our summer tables.

A rosemary-brined pork loin paired with our 2021 Sonoma County Cabernet Franc creates a beautiful balance of flavors. Cabernet Franc’s natural herbal qualities complement the rosemary beautifully, while its red fruit and subtle spice enhance the savory character of the pork.

One of our favorite things about this pairing is how elegant it feels without being complicated. The wine and food seem to meet each other in the middle, allowing both to shine.

Miso-Glazed Salmon & 2024 Sonoma County Viognier

If you’re looking to surprise your guests, this may be our favorite pairing on the list.

Miso-glazed salmon offers a wonderful combination of richness, sweetness, and umami. Our 2024 Sonoma County Viognier rises to the occasion with expressive aromatics, generous texture, and vibrant fruit.

The wine’s floral notes and stone fruit character complement the sweet-savory glaze, while its richness mirrors the salmon’s silky texture. At the same time, the wine’s freshness keeps the pairing lively and balanced.

It’s an unexpected match that always seems to spark conversation around the table.

The Best Pairing Is the People Around the Table

While we love talking about food and wine pairings, the truth is that our favorite summer gatherings are rarely defined by what’s on the plate or in the glass.

They’re defined by the people.

The laughter that carries across the yard. The stories that get better every time they’re told. The friends who stay longer than planned because nobody is quite ready for the evening to end.

That’s what summer entertaining is all about.

So fire up the grill, pull a few corks, gather your favorite people, and create a few memories of your own. We’ll be raising a glass right alongside you.

The Ultimate Guide To Planning A Wine Tasting Day In Healdsburg

There’s something special about a day spent in Healdsburg. Maybe it’s the vineyard views that seem to stretch forever, the friendly faces behind the tasting bars, or the incredible food waiting around every corner. Whatever draws you here, one thing is certain: the best wine country days aren’t rushed. They’re filled with good conversations, memorable wines, and the kind of experiences you’ll find yourself talking about long after you’ve returned home.

As a team, we’re often asked where we’d send friends and family who are visiting Healdsburg for the first time. While no two days are ever exactly alike, this is a pretty close version of our perfect wine country itinerary.

Start with a Great Breakfast

Every memorable wine country day begins with a good meal.

For a breakfast you likely won’t forget, stop by Acorn Café, a beloved local favorite known for an unexpected menu and a welcoming atmosphere. It’s one of those places that feels like it’s been part of the community forever, but is relatively new. Try the Lemon Ricotta Hotcake or Tiramisu French Toast – you won’t be disappointed.

If coffee is your priority, Plank is one of our favorite recommendations. The coffee is excellent, the breakfast options are delicious, and the people behind the counter are some of the kindest you’ll meet anywhere. It’s the sort of place where you’ll often see locals catching up before work, and after a few visits, don’t be surprised if they remember your order.

For something a little more hearty, The Parish Café offers thoughtful breakfast dishes, fresh ingredients, and a warm setting perfect for easing into the day.

Enjoy a Morning Wine Tasting

With breakfast behind you, it’s time for your first tasting appointment.

One of the advantages of starting early is that wineries are often a bit quieter, allowing for a more personal experience. In our opinion, some of the best wine country conversations happen before noon.

Robert Young Estate Winery offers a wonderful introduction to Sonoma County wine country, complete with beautiful views, great wines, and a rich family history. Another favorite of ours (and just lovely people) is boutique winery, Fat Dragon. They specialize in elegant, small lot Rhone varietals as well as beautiful, estate-grown reds. For those looking to explore the rugged character of Dry Creek Valley and Rockpile fruit, Mauritson Wines is an iconic winery and always worth a visit.

One of the things we love most about this part of wine country is how many wineries remain family owned and operated. At places like Robert Young, Fat Dragon, and Mauritson, there’s a good chance you’ll be welcomed by someone whose family helped build the winery, making the experience feel less like a tasting and more like a visit with old friends.

Take a Midday Break for Lunch

After a mid-morning tasting, a relaxed lunch is essential.

Bravas Bar de Tapas remains one of our favorite places to gather around a table and share dishes with friends. There’s something about passing plates, trying a little bit of everything, and lingering over conversation that feels perfectly suited to wine country.

Little Saint offers a creative menu and vibrant atmosphere right in the heart of town. Even guests who don’t typically seek out plant-based dining often leave talking about their meal long afterward.

If you’re looking for something more casual, historic Dry Creek General Store offers classic wine country picnic fare that pairs perfectly with a sunny afternoon. Many of us have fond memories of grabbing sandwiches there before finding a shady spot beneath an oak tree.

The Ultimate Afternoon Tasting: Lambert Bridge

By afternoon, you’re ready for a tasting experience that invites you to slow down and truly savor the moment.

At Lambert Bridge, hospitality has always been at the heart of what we do. Our intimate setting, nestled among Redwood forested hills and rolling vineyards, provides a peaceful retreat from the bustle of the day. It’s not uncommon to hear guests remark that they instantly feel more relaxed when they arrive, and honestly, that’s exactly what we hope for.

For those looking to explore the breadth of our portfolio, the Winemaker’s Selection Experience offers a curated journey through some of our most celebrated wines, showcasing the unique vineyards and varietals that define Lambert Bridge.

two people sitting on couches enjoying wine

For collectors and wine enthusiasts seeking something even more special, the Cellar Collection Experience opens the door to rare library selections and limited-production wines, offering a deeper look into how our wines evolve over time. Watching someone’s face light up as they taste a beautifully aged wine for the first time never gets old.

Whichever experience you choose, you’ll find yourself surrounded by the warm hospitality and familial spirit that have defined Lambert Bridge for generations. We often tell guests that our goal is simple: we want you to feel like you’re spending the afternoon at a friend’s home—one that just happens to make great wine.

Stroll Through Historic Healdsburg Plaza

After your tasting, take some time to enjoy one of the most charming town squares in wine country.

The historic Healdsburg Plaza is perfect for an afternoon walk. Browse local boutiques, explore art galleries, grab a scoop of ice cream from Noble Folk, or simply find a shady bench and watch the world go by.

Some of our favorite afternoons have been the simplest ones – wandering through town without an agenda, running into familiar faces, and enjoying the easy pace that makes Healdsburg feel more like a community than a destination.

End the Day with an Unforgettable Dinner

No perfect Healdsburg itinerary is complete without a memorable meal.

Dry Creek Kitchen remains a benchmark for wine country dining, pairing progressive American style with the bounty of Sonoma County. Another favorite, Guiso Latin Fusion offers a cozy atmosphere and deeply satisfying flavors that always seem to hit the spot.

If we’re celebrating something special, Valette is often at the top of our list. The hospitality is exceptional, the food is thoughtful, and every visit seems to create a new favorite memory.

For a lively downtown experience, The Matheson is always a great choice. Whether you’re sharing plates with friends, introducing visitors to Healdsburg, or enjoying a cocktail on the rooftop, it captures the energy and excitement of wine country – welcoming, relaxing, and approachable.

Your Perfect Healdsburg Day Awaits

The beauty of Healdsburg is that no two visits are ever exactly alike. New discoveries wait around every corner, yet familiar favorites always feel like coming home.

That’s what we love most about this place. Beyond the wineries and restaurants, it’s the people, the stories, and the sense of connection that keep us – and so many of our guests – coming back year after year.

Whether you’re planning your first visit or returning for another unforgettable weekend, we hope you’ll make Lambert Bridge part of your journey. We’ll have a glass waiting for you.

2026 Vintage Cellaring Guide

One of the great joys of wine is that it continues to evolve long after it leaves the winery. Over time, vibrant fruit aromas and flavors can gradually give way to more complex notes of spice, cedar, tobacco, earth, and dried flowers. Tannins often soften, textures become more integrated, and new layers of character emerge with each passing year. Watching a wine develop in the cellar can be every bit as rewarding as enjoying it at the table.

That said, there is no single “perfect” time to open a bottle. The ideal drinking window depends largely on your personal palate and preferences. If you enjoy youthful wines bursting with fresh fruit and lively energy, you may prefer to enjoy your wines sooner. If you’re drawn to the savory complexity, softened tannins, and nuanced aromas that come with age, a little patience can be richly rewarded. This Cellaring Guide offers our recommendations based on how each wine is evolving today and over the coming year, but ultimately, the best time to open a bottle is whenever it tastes best to you.
