Did you know that Cabernet Franc is a genetic parent of Cabernet Sauvignon?

In the 17th century in Southwestern France, a chance crossing between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc created a new grape variety, Cabernet Sauvignon. This heritage coupled with its primary role in many of the great St. Emillion wines of the Bordeaux region has built Cabernet Franc’s reputation as one of the truly classic varietals.

While traditionally a blending grape in the U.S., our Cabernet Franc emulates the great St. Emillion blends and has garnered an almost cult-like following. Since 2006 it has been designated a wine club exclusive. Just a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon (4%) and Malbec (3%) are interwoven with our estate grown Cabernet Franc, adding a deep ruby color and velvety mouthfeel to this thin skinned Bordeaux varietal.

One of the most aromatic of the Bordeaux varietals, the 2009 Cabernet Franc rouses the senses with layers of black plum, dried raspberry, and just a hint of sweet tobacco leaf. Twenty months aging in French Oak barrels fills the mouth with soft tannins and leads to a finish so intriguing you won’t want to wait to try another bottle.

When celebrating with this special bottle, we recommend pairing a delicious roasted crown rack of pork or herb crusted rack of lamb.
